A mailto: link is a special type of hyperlink that, when clicked, opens the user's default email client (Apple Mail, Outlook, Gmail, Thunderbird) and creates a new compose window. Unlike regular web links, mailto links stay entirely within the user's email app — no web page is loaded, no server is involved, and no data is sent until the user clicks "Send."

Will this work on all email clients?
Yes — the mailto: protocol is a universal standard supported by Apple Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, and most other desktop email clients. Gmail users on desktop may see a "gmail.com is not configured to handle this link" prompt unless they have set Gmail as their default email app in their browser settings.
Can I use line breaks in the body?
Yes. The tool automatically encodes newline characters (%0A) correctly. Type your body text normally in the textarea — paragraph breaks will appear correctly in the pre-filled email body when the link is clicked.
Is the email sent automatically when someone clicks the link?
No. The link only opens the user's email client with a pre-composed message. The user must review and click Send manually. This is a fundamental property of mailto: links — they cannot send emails automatically or without user action.
